Hi,

We are in the process of migrating to a new machine running PHP 4.3.1 (mysql client API 3.23.49) / Apache 1.3.27 on Red Hat 7.3. We will continue to use the old machine as our mysql box (mysql v. 3.23.54).

We have been getting this sporadic error using this new setup:

Warning: mysql_pconnect() [function.mysql-pconnect]: Link to server lost, unable to reconnect in /path/to/php/file on line 8 

This error has never happened on our existing production machine (PHP 4.2.2 (mysql client API 3.23.39) / Apache 1.3.26 connecting to mysql 3.23.54 locally)

I've searched the bug reports and looks like there are some bugs that were reported in php 4.3.0 which were supposedly fixed:

Please do not submit the same bug more than once. An existing
bug report already describes this very problem. Even if you feel
that your issue is somewhat different, the resolution is likely
to be the same. Because of this, we hope you add your comments
to the existing bug instead.

Those bugs are fixed in CVS. Don't report this again.

FYI we just tried PHP 4.2.3 on the new machine and the errors seem to have gone away.
