Successfully obtained the PHP 4.3.0 release from anonymous CVS.

./buildconf ran successfully, however, ./configure fails with the following error:

"checking for cURL 7.9.8 or greater... configure: error: cURL version 7.9.8 or later is required to compile php with cURL support"

I updated cURL with the latest version (7.10.2) as evidenced by:

"[root@server php4]# curl -V
curl 7.10.2 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) libcurl/7.10.2 OpenSSL/0.9.6b zlib/1.1.3"

however, I still get the error when attempting to run ./configure.

I have no trouble compiling PHP 4.3 against curl 7.10.2, it is possible that curl library is not in the path or the path you've specified is incorrect.
Try putting the output of 'curl-config --prefix' as the value for --with-curl. Ex: --with-curl=`curl-config --prefix

Check also config.log which may have some information on why the check failed...
