Passing values in the URL results in EMPTY variables. PHP is parsing the code fine, but when i try to pass a variable to a new file the variables do not contain ANY values! For example, in file.php is the following link to contents.php?type=foo&page=bar. In contents.php printing the variables type and page shows that these variables do not contain anything. I am using apache 1.3.26.

In PHP 4.2.0, the 'register_globals' setting default changed to
be off. See http://www.php.net/release_4_2_0.php for more info.
We are sorry about the inconvenience, but this change was a necessary
part of our efforts to make PHP scripting more secure and portable.
