We have tried the new relase (PHP 4.2.0) and some of our pages segfaults. Consider such a simple code as:

<?php

echo "Hello!";

error_log('Hi! I am an error message!', 0);

?>

This crashes every time, independently on any auto_prepend setting (which we normally use). When you comments out the error_log call, page runs ok.

I can perform some additinal test when nedded, looking forward for any interest.

T :-)

P.S.: Our config: './configure' '--with-oci8=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7' '--with-apxs=/usr/local/apache.dbg/bin/apxs' '--without-mysql' '--enable-sigchild' '--build=i686-sco-sysv5uw7'

Unfortunatelly I cannot generate backtrack: cgi version doesn't crash and Apache version with --enable-debug doesn't start at all ... :-(

I can not reproduce this..which Apache version do you have?
And what do you mean by '--enable-debug' doesn't run?
Have you checked your error_log what it says when you
try to start? Do you load some extensions in php.ini ?
