The details of this problem can be found on bug #4763, #4986, #6672,
#10307 and #10383.

I have found the first one that raise this issue since version 4.0 rc2
and it is still broken upto the version (4.0.4 pl1).
If the PHP development team will consider this is obsolete function
and no intention to fix it. Please mark it clearly on the manual.
The current manual may mislead many PHP site developer while
they design any new web project to use this function.

I am using Apache 1.3.14 + 4.0.4 pl1 on x86 machine.
