Mcrypt functions have indeed stopped working. It seems to crash php altogether when I do a mcrypt_generic... as our site simply returns a Page not found error. Can you fix this asap? And please post something on your site letting people know the problem. It has taken 4 days before someone actually let us know that our site hasn't been functional for this time!

I can't do a backtrace unfortunately as I had it compiled without debug for the optimizer.

This should be fixed already in the current CVS.
You can try a snapshot from snaps.php.net or wait for PHP 4.0.6.
And I recommend using libmcrypt 2.4.11, as this fixed some strange things.
