cannot find a way to tell configure to find both the header and the mysql client library
path to one errors the other just --with-mysql builds from php library..  normally would be
the correct response

stops me upgrading  from php3,    both were built from tar.gz source and work fine
standard (out of the box) layout on both dynamic (not static ) with shared libs
annoying. can not proceed while error(warning) persists
mysql resides in /usr/local/mysql-3.33.30/ (.h files)
mysql client /usr/local/mysql-3.33.30/client/.c .o .cc .lo
and  | or | /usr/local/lib/mysql   *.a  *.so *.la

tried all released versions of php4  all fail   all versions of php3 work

it has got to be sinple... os.. linux slackware 7 stock-standard install

fixed:  link /usr/local/lib/mysql to the mysql source tree

You can also add the path after the option, ie.

--with-mysql=/path/to/mysql/install/dir

And the path must be the INSTALL dir NOT sources dir!!!
