[root@linukers php-4.0.4]# ./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --with-pgsql --with-apache=../apache_1.3.14 --enable-track-vars --enable-force-cgi-redirect --with-gettext --with-ldap --with-imap-ssl --with-imap --with-jpeg --with-servlet --enable-magic-quotes --enable-calendar --with-tiff --with-gdbm --enable-ftp --enable-gd-imgstrttf --with-gd --with-xpm --with-ttf --with-kerberos--with-readline --enable-sockets --enable-yp --with-zlib --with-tsrm-pthreads --with-java=/usr/local/jdk1.2 --with-gif

I configured according to the above and excuted 'make' to compile accordingly.
Then, the compiling was broken during doing gd.c as follows:

gd.c: In function `php_if_imagecreatefromgif':
gd.c:703: `gdImageCreateFromGif' undeclared (first use in this function)
gd.c:703: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
gd.c:703: for each function it appears in.)
gd.c: In function `php_if_imagegif':
gd.c:862: `gdImageGif' undeclared (first use in this function)

This happens when your gd header files do not match your installed gd library, or you have multiple versions of gd.h on your system. Do a 'make clean', remove any extra gd.h header files and re-configure/rebuild.
