This follows bug 6469 which i have been uunable to reopen.

I tried with dev version of php from php4win.de. The exact name of the file i downloaded is : php4.0.4-dev-win32-20001022.zip

The "crash" is now smoother as i get an appropriate error message within my browser :

"No input file specified."

I don't know how website calls php.exe but i don't think there is a way to specify additional stuff like '%1' when making the association between .php and php.exe within website's configuration interface (as it is possible with IIS for instance). But again website launches the version 3 of php.exe with full success.

this is no crash, set the doc_root in the php.ini and it will work.
instructions on how to do that are available at php4win.de
