The key_exists() function has never been deprecated (according to its source code for PHP 5.2 and above, at least). There was a discussion some years ago about documenting it[1], where it was brought up that some aliases (including this one) were old, but since it was never formally deprecated, I've removed the deprecation warning from the array_key_exists() page. I will also delete the comment on the key_exists() page to remove any confusion about the function being deprecated.

I'll leave this open for a few days for other docs members to see in case they have anything further to say on this.
