It seems that php misparses string expressions that begins with 'ads_'.
The following code shows how two images, one with filename starting by 'ads_' is not displayed, while the same image with filename starting by 'adse_' is displayed. 

Test script:

Not reproducible, seems to be something different. Corrupted image? Typo?

I guarantee you this is not a bug with PHP.

Your browser will tell you best why the image isn't loading. Maybe it 404s. Maybe it's not an image. Maybe it's getting ad blocked.

Never name your images "ads_*" or "ad_*", as ad-blockers will eat them.
