It seems that configure does not check for the Kerberos
issue present in bug id #4424 (which is marked as closed ?)
on RedHat 6.2. And, the README or other info files also does
not mention that.
Maybe a README.RH-IMAP or a switch like --with-rh-imap-hack
will do.
So far, it boils down to a patch to conf-vars.mk ....

Got rid of it in a php.spec by something like:
EXTRA_LIBS="-L/usr/kerberos/lib -lgssapi_krb5 -lkrb5 -lk5crypto -lcom_err"
Please be kind an release a README or make a switch in
configure for such situations (compile on RedHat 6.1/6.2
that is)

That's what the --with-kerberos configure switch does.
