Description:

From manual page: http://www.php.net/function.ereg#refsect1-function.ereg-
description
---

I hate to see a huge red warning that says: "This function has been DEPRECATED as
of PHP X.X.X. Relying on this feature is highly discouraged."
without the recommended alternative IMMEDIATELY NEXT TO IT such as "Use YYYY
instead".

The recommended alternative is usually mentioned in a NOTE a few paragraphs
later, but one shouldn't have to look for it.

Log: Added and clarified function alternatives relating to the deprecation of the regex extension.
Contribution by Ole Aass.
Relates to and closes bug #63934.

This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.

Thank you for the report, and for helping us make our documentation better.

Unfortunately, due to the way we handle deprecation notices in the documentation
(using language snippets), it's not always feasible to use the same style as is
found on, say, the mysql_connect function deprecation notice.

However, we've added in a few alternative function notices, and clarified the
existing notices that can be found in the notes section of each of the
deprecated regex functions.

Thanks for the report.
