OK,

Under Solaris 8/Intel, PHP4.0.1pl2, and the latest CVS
both exhibit the same behavior. Basically, you launch
httpd (with PHP compiled in as a module, or running as
a DSO, it doesn't matter), and try to reqest a page on a
client machine.

It's about 50/50 that the page will display. If it _does_,
all is well. If it doesn't, you get a "page cannot be
displayed" error on the client, and on the server, a quick
check of dmesg says that the httpd child has crashed.

Of course, the primary httpd stays running, but the child
that was servicing your request dies completely. A new
process is started and life goes on, but it's totally
unacceptable to have to refresh your page a couple
times to get PHP to work without crashing httpd.

I _have_ narrowed it down to PHP (or something it's
calling), as this _DOES NOT_ happen when sessions
are disabled.

Later,

Dylan
