I sometimes get errors connecting to the Oracle database even when I can connect via sqlplus from the
same machine. Wiithout any error code or text I am not sure how to debug my connection problems!

The oracle server is running under VMS (we are converting to Solaris, but I have not been able to try
that server yet).

I *have* read in some web discussions that OCIError did not work for others in the case of connection
problems, so I am pretty sure it is not just my setup.

worked *most* of the time! i found one litte problem - which is fixed in CVS.
BTW: please update to 4.0.2 as soon as it comes out as there is another problem which sometimes caused oracle-connections to fail!
