in php.h we have:

#ifndef LONG_MAX
#define LONG_MAX 2147483647L
#endif

#ifndef LONG_MIN
#define LONG_MIN (- LONG_MAX - 1)
#endif

just in cas limits.h is not there or does not define LONG_MAX

maybe this should be done in zend.h to ?

Is this still a problem when using PHP 4.0.3pl1 ?
It shouldn't be..you're using linux which should have limits.h.
Or your system is somehow messed up.

I heard rumours that Zeev has promised to put fallback #define's into Zend header
files.
