The problem described in FAQ entry 6.11 'When I try to build
PHP using --with-apxs I get strange error messages' was in
my case related to reconfiguring/reinstalling apache without
doing a make clean in between. Might be a nice hint for
people.

I had first built apache without so, installed, then rebuilt
with so. apxs was reinstalled, but not rebuilt.

Now that I think about it, this might be considered a bug in
apache. I'll submit it to them too.
