Boutell has removed the support of gif manipulations due a copyright. So when i tried to compile with gd support, it has errors of function not declared.. all of that function was gif... something.
In the Boutell home page www.boutell.com/gd, say that ypu must change the code to update to the new gd library.

PHP supports all versions of GD.  If you are upgrading from 1.3 to a later version, make sure you completely uninstall version 1.3, then rm config.cache in the PHP directory and re-run the configure script.
