I expected the default value, which is now '.inc,.php', of spl_autoload_extensions() to be configurable in php.ini, just like the include_path.

populate spl_autoload_extensions() from php.ini

Explicitly declining this as the spl default autoloader is legacy functionality that will not be extended. Please use a saner autoloader instead (e.g. the one provided by composer).
