trying to compile PHP4 release will fail on 2.3 and 2.4 series kernels on file microtime.c. I tried this with 2.3.99pre5,6,9 and 2.4test1 ac10 with various options

As far as i can tell microtime.c references sys/resource.h, but configure script doesn't detect it correctly on 2.3/4 series kernels

workaround is to do following to php_config.h
uncomment line #undef HAVE_SYS_RESOURCE_H
add under it #define HAVE_SYS_RESOURCE_H 1

compiles and executes ok afterwards

Please look into config.log for error messages.

A possible error source is that either your glibc version is incompatible with recent kernels or that the kernel was not installed properly. I've been running 2.4.0-test1 since some days and did not notice any problem.
