I have a problem where the libtool configuration part claims that my ld don't support shared libs (even though php3 would compile just fine).

A make works fine except no .so file have been made so it can't get installed.

And that makes 'make installe' fail as noted in Bug id #4764.

Please verify that it?s still happening using the latest version of PHP (release 4.0.1pl2 or CVS).

The problem seemed to go away with 4.0.1pl2. It have another 
problem I have filed in bug #5430.
