Document --with-php-config and the php-config shell script that comes with PHP. A MAN page does exist for php-config...

Also while documenting be sure to mention it within the install section, including in the pecl/phpize docs.

You are talking about compiling PHP extensions (like pecl, or shared 
"default" extensions)?

These things are a "the-word-on-the-street-is-..." for various linux distributions, but by "default" there is nothing you need to do.

Any reason why we should document these "external" configuration 
options any better then the actual _PHP_ configuration options?

Trouble is, today we don't document it at all. The php-config shows 
plenty of information, and a brief description of this should prove 
useful.

And we may as well have a place that lists all the bin/ files we 
provide, but now I'm getting off topic.

This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.
