I uninstalled PHP 5.2.6, installed 5.2.7-dev and restarted the computer.
When installing, I checked the features I wanted (GD2, Multi-Byte String, MySQL, MySQLi and XSL) and it showed that 5 of 108 features were being installed. Upon testing the configuration, however, MySQL and MySQLi did not appear. I then used 5.2.7-dev to change the installation, and it showed only 3 of 108 features were installed.
In other words (and just to state the obvious) I don't think MySQL or MySQLi are being installed.
Just in case it's relevant, I'm using Apache 2.2.9 and running Vista Home Premium SP1.
