Description:
------------
The following statement is from the Multbyte string functions page on php.net "Any of those Character encodings can be specified in the encoding parameter of mbstring functions". This is not true, mb_regex_encoding and mb_strpos and probably more cannot recognise some of the encodings listed.

Reproduce code:

Actual result:

assign to extension maintainer

I assigned to to the extension maintainer rather than as a documentation problem just to get clarification that this should be handled as a doc problem. if its simply a case to update the docs then assign back to me and I will do it. Thanks.

A part of character encoding set supported by mbregex functions
is different from mbstring functions.
It is a documentation problem.
It should by like
"Any of those Character encodings can be specified in the
encoding parameter of mbstring functions
except for mbregex related functions".
Please fix the documentation problem.

Changed status to open to let one of the documentation team make the change.

This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.

Thank you for the report, and for helping us make our documentation better.

mb_strpos() is fine, the parameters are just not valid in some encodings.

I've denoted encodings usable also in regexp.
