Using the xor logical operator crashes PHP 5.2.5 under Windows Vista. This does not seem to happen with Linux.

Cannot reproduce.
Please try with a working Windows version.

After further investigation, I've found that the bug is caused by Zend Optimizer 3.3.0 . Disabling Zend Optimizer solved the issue.

Zend Optimizer bugs are not PHP bugs. Please report to Zend.
