I can't say much more here since mod_perl is compiled statically into my Apache binary. I do know that if the PHP4 module is not loaded, mod_perl then proceeds to work correctly.

I have not been able to check if PHP works without mod_perl, but at this point, this is my only assumption. I assume there is some conflict somewhere, but I have no clue as to where to start looking.

Please supply your configure line.

user reports:

The problems arose in context with someone trying to run
mod_perl+PHP4RC1+Apache and installing Slash (the code that runs
http://slashdot.org/) -- I reported this problem based on my attempts to
find the problem. When I last installed PHP4 using the Debian package
manager, this problem did indeed dissappear. I haven't tried compiling
from source as I did last time to see if, perhaps, my actual configure
line was what caused the problem. I'd be happy to do it again in the near
future to test. If I find any problems, I'll happily report them to you.
