It appears as of the fix for #39898 that support for validating relative URLs and URLs without a schema has been removed, without any option to allow them.

I understand the reasoning is that the RFC specifies that a URL must include a schema and a host, which is fair enough.

But it leaves the user with no simple way to validate domain names or relative URLs.

So can I suggest that we add a FILTER_VALIDATE_URI type that would allow domains, relative paths, or full URLs?
