I have backported PHP 5.2 upload progress hook support to work under PHP 4.4.4 . It has been througholy tested along with the uploadprogress extensioon from PECL. It is working well as needed. If there is interest to integrate this patch, it is available here:

PHP 4 is only for bugfixes.

That's true that php4 is for bug fixes only, many (the majority actually) users still use php4 and may need this feature.

Manuel, I suggest you to post this patch to internals, if someone needs it, it can be found somehow in the list archive.

As a side note, I would even say that php4 is dead, given the complete lack of releases even when very few things have been commited in months, it is not a qualitative comment about the RM's job but a fact.
