I run the code

On my win32 apache I get a nice little read box
On Solaris apache I get the error

My solaris version runs in many other examples.

You probably don't have gd support configured. How did you configure PHP?

No feedback since Feb.
GD works fine on Solaris i86 here...
Most likely needs to rebuild PHP
