I was getting a:  
  
/usr/lib/php4/sybase.so: undefined symbol: dbversion  
  
on my RHAS 4 server. This was with 4.3.9 and 4.4.0. 
 
Fix below. 

Actual result:

Here is a fix to the problem (in the 
ext/sybase/config.m4): 
 
AC_CHECK_LIB(sybdb, tdsdbopen, 
     [ AC_DEFINE(PHP_SYBASE_DBOPEN,tdsdbopen,[ ]) 
       AC_DEFINE(DBMFIX,1,[ ]) ], 
     [ AC_DEFINE(PHP_SYBASE_DBOPEN,dbopen,[ ]) ]) 
+  PHP_SUBST(SYBASE_SHARED_LIBADD) 
fi 
 
PHP/sybase gives me no problems when I add the 
PHP_SUBST(SYBASE_SHARED_LIBADD) line.

This bug has been fixed in CVS.

Snapshots of the sources are packaged every three hours; this change
