one of the files in libzend uses far to much memory at compile time. I had 80 meg swap and 32 meg ram and I have tested in openbsd freebsd and redhat linux. The resual was the same, out of swapmemory! (the fun part is that linux complained alot, openbsd didnt complain it just hanged ;-D)

A simple solution is to compile on mashines with more ram, but this has to be fixed for the final release.

I don't see it being fixed since we don't see it as a PHP problem. It is a bug in gcc. The workaround is to compile using --disable-inline. You will get a slower binary, but it won't use nearly as much memory when compiling.
