Description:

phpize seems to be not really round.
If the pfad of the work directory constain a space phpize quits work.

Reproduce code:
---------------
mkdir "/foo bar"
cd "/foo bar/"
tar -xzf /tmp/python-0.6.tar.gz
cd some-pecl-ext-1.0
phpize



Actual result:
--------------
/usr/bin/phpize: line 60: test: /foo: binary operator expected
chmod: cannot access `/foo': No such file or directory
chmod: cannot access `bar/python-0.6.0/build/shtool': No such file or directory
/usr/bin/phpize: line 61: test: /foo: binary operator expected
/usr/bin/phpize: line 1: /foo: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/phpize: line 68: -f: command not found

This bug has been fixed in CVS.

Snapshots of the sources are packaged every three hours; this change
will be in the next snapshot. You can grab the snapshot at
http://snaps.php.net/.

We generally don't support base paths containing spaces in the Unix build system. Therefore, phpize does not need to support such paths as well.

well, my point of view is this: Unix allow spaces in files/directory/etc. So if there are unsupported you don?t support Unix filesystem-handling.
Of course it is not widly used as in Windows.
But there is no reason to drop support or don?t support this because it is possible and it is a port of Unix and its clones.
