before mysql_real_connect()
This read /etc/my.cnf [php] group.

No, No, No! You may specify more than one default [client] group, to be able set to your taste settings of charsets and other settings.

The MySSQL extension (ext/mysql) has been deprecated as of PHP
5.5.0 and removed as of PHP 7.0.0, so we won't implement any
feature requests anymore.
