configure of snmp produces error:
no rule to make target 'libphpext_snmp.a',
needed by 'all-am'

One: Assuming I understand libtool, I think that one needs:
php4/ext/snmp/config:47 should be changed from
     SNMP_STATIC="libphpext_snmp.a"  to
  SNMP_STATIC="libphpext_snmp.la"
Two: Also, in php4/ext/snmp/snmp.c:77 which adds a supposedly
  missing prototype, when commented out for Solaris7 will
  avoid a prototype conflict with
  /usr/local/include/ucd-snmp/mib.h
These two changes gets php4 to compile, but I have not
  tried to see if the snmp extension actually works.
Maybe, someone can see if these fixes are *excellent-good*
