I tried to install PHP 4.3.2 on a Red Hat Linux 8 machine running Apache 2.0.40. It installed fine without compiling a shared module for Apache. I reconfigured it with apxs for Apache 2.0.40 and PHP reported that it requires Apache and apxs >= 2.0.40 (current is 2.0.46).

Is there any reason why 4.3.1 will compile under 2.0.40 and 4.3.2 requires 2.0.44 or better? Or will we continue to have to step our Apache 2 versions to install future PHP versions?

Thank you for taking the time to write to us, but this is not
a bug. Please double-check the documentation available at
http://www.php.net/manual/ and the instructions on how to report
a bug at http://bugs.php.net/how-to-report.php

Because as of 4.3.2 the default Apache is based on apache2handler, which requires Apache version > 2.0.40

PHP 4.3.2 does not compile on Red Hat 9 with Apache 2.0.40, regardless of the fact the PHP documentation states it should compile with Apache 2.0.40.

The PHP ./configure states Apache >= 2.0.44 is required, not 2.0.40.
