I am compiling shared module and I get some strange error as included below, this is the configure script I ran:
./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-config-file-path=/etc --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql

It does compile without the --with-mysql directive just fine, however I need support for MySQL. It appears to not like the -W option in the apxs command as below.

thanks.

/usr/sbin/apxs -c -o libphp3.so -I. -I. -Wl,'-rpath /usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql' ./mod_php3.c libmodphp3-so.a -L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql -lmysqlclient -lgdbm pcrelib/libpcre.a -lpam -lm -ldl -lcrypt -lnsl -lresolv -Lpcrelib -lpcre
apxs:Error: Unknown option: W
Usage: apxs -g -n <modname>
       apxs -q <query> ...
       apxs -c [-o <dsofile>] [-D <name>[=<value>]] [-I <incdir>]
               [-L <libdir>] [-l <libname>] <files> ...
       apxs -i [-a] [-n <modname>] <dsofile> ...

Like INSTALL.REDHAT says, you need at least Apache-1.3.4 for this to work. Download the Apache-1.3.9
tarball and instal it with these flags:

./configure --with-layout=RedHat --enable-module=so
make
make install

Then do your PHP build like you did there.
