The PHP function passthru works without errors in our production environment (PHP4.0.6).

Passthru in the latest CVS produces no output at all. Also, no errors or notices are seen in the error_log.

Is this a known problem ?

Are you using PHP_4_3 CVS branch or php5 ?

I'm using the PHP_4_3 CVS (right now php4-STABLE-200302251030).

Something as simple as this :
<?
passthru('echo "Hello"');
?>

produces no output (and no errors).
No other combinations of single and double quotes give different results..

This bug has been fixed in CVS.

In case this was a PHP problem, snapshots of the sources are packaged
every three hours; this change will be in the next snapshot. You can
grab the snapshot at http://snaps.php.net/.
 
In case this was a documentation problem, the fix will show up soon at
http://www.php.net/manual/.

In case this was a PHP.net website problem, the change will show
up on the PHP.net site and on the mirror sites in short time.

i've got same error when building php-4.3.2 
on VineSeed (Vine Linux development version). 
It occurs when doing make test 
before installing /usr/bin/php.
