I am running php 3.0.7 on and SGI Origin 200 running IRIX 6.5.5m. I am
doing some testing and I want to retrieve the minutes west of GMT that
gettimeofday() has. There fore I did this.

$tod = gettimeofday();
print $tod["minuteswest"] . " Minutes West of GMT\n";

It returns a value of 0

do you have any idea why? should it not return 300 since I am on EDT.

Not all OS support all options. Look at your gettimeofday(2) man page. IRIX probably does not fill in the necessary value.
