if a text_node is appended to a node, then it can lead to segfaults if the last child of the node is also a text-node.

this is because libxml2 frees then the node. (from their docu: "Add a new node to parent, at the end of the child (or property) list merging adjacent TEXT nodes (in which case cur is freed) If the new node was already inserted in a document it is first unlinked from its existing context. If the new node is ATTRIBUTE, it is added into properties instead of children. If there is an attribute with equal name, it is first destroyed.") and we don't...

This bug has been fixed in CVS.

In case this was a PHP problem, snapshots of the sources are packaged
every three hours; this change will be in the next snapshot. You can
grab the snapshot at http://snaps.php.net/.
