1. Start apache 2 - ./apachectl startssl OR just 'start'

2. Request file phptest.php (containing just phpinfo()
call).

3. Browser reports incomplete page (actually nothing at
all).

4. Stop apache.

5. View apache error_log file which contains -

[notice] Apache/2.0.40 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.0.40
OpenSSL/0.9.6g DAV/2 PHP/4.2.3 configured -- resuming
normal operations

PHP Warning: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script
whose uid is -1 is not allowed to access
/home/htdocs/phptest.php owned by uid 99 in Unknown on line
0
PHP Warning: Failed opening '/home/htdocs/phptest.php' for
inclusion (include_path= ...) in Unknown on line 0

Apache is running as uid 99 and the named file is
owned by that user and permissions rwx are provided - but I
have never heard of a uid -1. I do note that an earlier
bug last year complained of something similar but with uid
1 (as opposed to -1)

The CVS snapshot php4-200209091200 (together with a
necessary update to Sablotron 0.96) has built and run
successfully clearing the reported bug.

     My thanks to all concerned.
