I am not sure if this is a problem with PHP, or if it could be a Windows issue, but here is the problem I am having. The problem did not start until I was forced to reformat my hard drives due to a corrupted system registry.

I first encountered the problem described below using Apache 1.3.24 and the CGI self installer version 4.2.1 of PHP. I then uninstalled both Apache and PHP, and installed Apache 2.0.36 and the SAPI (zipped version) of PHP 4.2.1 and have the exact same problems.

Following the instructions in the install.txt file that comes with the zipped version of PHP, I added the following lines to my httpd.conf configuration file:
LoadModule php4_module d:/ProFiles/php/sapi/php4apache2.dll
  AddModule mod_php4.c
  AddType application/x-httpd-php .php

Apache choked on the AddModule directive, so I remarked that out, and added:
  ScriptAlias /php/ "d:/ProFiles/php/"
  Action application/x-httpd-php "/php/php.exe"

I have a simple guestbook that just writes flat files to keep track of entries, rather than using a database, and when I try to open it, all I get is raw code, nothing is being parsed it seems. The strange thing is that I also have a message board system written in PHP that uses MySQL, and while the pages are being parsed properly, I cannot create new posts, or reply to existing posts. In addition to that, I also tried to set up a guestbook that uses MySQL, and cannot get past the setup.php file that is prompting me for a language selection.

Here are links to the guestbook.php file (that isn't being parsed at all), the message board, and the setup for the MySQL driven guestbook:
http://linuxdaves.3utilities.com/guestbook.php
http://linuxdaves.3utilities.com/forums
http://linuxdaves.3utilities.com/guestbook/admin/setup.php

The strange thing about all of this is that all three of these systems work perfectly on my Linux system, and they used to work on Windows 2000 before I was forced to reformat everything. Before reformatting, I was using NTFS file systems, and am still using NTFS. I've checked the read/write permissions on the directories and files, and they seem to be okay, so I'm stumped as to what could be the problem.

The only thing I can think of that I've done differently with the new, fresh install of Win2K is that I applied all of the security updates, and service packs immediately after installation, then installed Visual Studio .NET and related updates before installing PHP, Apache, and MySQL, but I wouldn't think that would have relevance. Maybe it does?

I've tried posting on a couple of forums for PHP, but no one has seemed to be able to come up with a possible reason as to why PHP doesn't seem to be working properly.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions, or provide more information.

Thanks

Oh, I almost forgot to mention just in case you're wondering. I do have the php.ini file in the WINNT directory, and the php4ts.dll in the System32 directory.

Sorry, but the bug system is not the appropriate forum for asking
support questions. Your problem does not imply a bug in PHP itself.
For a list of more appropriate places to ask for help using PHP,
please visit http://www.php.net/support.php

Thank you for your interest in PHP.

You can also try to go through the updated win32/install.txt at http://cvs.php.net/co.php/php4/win32/install.txt?r=1.15&p=1 , maybe it helps. I think it's clearly a configuration error on your system, not a bug.
