Warning reports (Then executing queries to MySQL) come to output ,before earlier placed "echo" directive.
<?
echo "test\n";
#include("myfunc.inc");
myfunc();
/*call to function, which generates "PHP Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource"*/
?>
Produces

X-Powered-By: PHP/4.1.2
Content-type: text/html
PHP Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in
.....
.....
test

after 'test' message order of messages/echos seems to be restored to expected.
Same problem in php 4.1.2
