BIG PROBLEM!!! I have tried this on both 4.2.0 and 4.2.1 on both IIS 5.1 and Apache (Linux 7.3):

if i define a variable using a url, example:

module.php?mod=hello

the variable $mod DOES NOT get set in a VERY simple script:

<?

echo $mod;

?>

and give me an "Undefined Variable Error"

In PHP 4.2.0, the 'register_globals' setting default changed to
be off. See http://www.php.net/release_4_2_0.php for more info.
We are sorry about the inconvenience, but this change was a necessary
part of our efforts to make PHP scripting more secure and portable.

Use $_GET["mod"] instead of $mod.
If you request method is POST => $_POST["mod"].
