The libraries come before the search path in the ld line causing libraries not to be found.

For 3.0.7 (which works) the line is:

ld -G -o libphp3.so mod_php3.o libmodphp3-so.a -R/usr/local/lib/mysql -L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/local/lib/mysql -lmysqlclient -lgd -lpam -lm -ldl -lsocket -lnsl -lresolv

For 3.0.9 (which can't find anything in /usr/local/lib) the line is:

ld -G -o libphp3.so mod_php3.o pcrelib/libpcre.a -lgd -lpam -lm -ldl -lsocket -lnsl -lresolv libmodphp3-so.a -Lpcrelib -lpcre -R/usr/local/lib/mysql -L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/local/lib/mysql -lmysqlclient

It doesn't look like we've changed anything.

Is this using --with-apxs? Did you change Apache versions?
