The documentation about classes/objects misses that you actually can prevent exposing errors in the constructor by using @new.

And, it should also mentioned that you can't use the '@' operator with &new.

  $obj = @new classname; // ok, works

  $obj = @&new classname; // parser error

&new classname is a special case, therefore you can't "mute" it.

This bug has been fixed in CVS. You can grab a snapshot of the
CVS version at http://snaps.php.net/. In case this was a documentation 
problem, the fix will show up soon at http://www.php.net/manual/.
