Hi,

I am trying to build apache-1.3.20 with mod-ssl and php. After running mod-ssl configure, I run the apache configure, then goto the php directory and run that configure. That's where I get stuck.

Here's my configure command:

./configure --with-apache=../apache_1.3.20 --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --enable-memory-limit=yes --enable-debug=no --with-java=/usr/local/java --with-openssl=/usr/local/openssl

That runs for quite a long time and finally ends with a message about libssl not found:

checking whether to install PEAR... yes
checking whether to enable safe mode by default... no
checking for safe mode exec dir... /usr/local/php/bin
checking for OpenSSL support... yes
checking for OpenSSL version... >= 0.9.5
checking for CRYPTO_free in -lcrypto... yes
checking for SSL_CTX_set_ssl_version in -lssl... no
configure: error: libssl not found!

This is the tail -50 from config.log:

configure:7217: checking for readdir_r

Check this out:
http://www.sun.com/software/star/gnome/faq/gnome14techfaq.html#55

You should propably use this configure option:

--enable-libgcc Enable explicitly linking against libgcc

--Jani

User feedback:

The link was very helpful and absolutely spot on because I did in fact compile
openssl with gcc and I was trying to compile php with the Sun C compiler. I
went back the beginning and compiled everything with the Sun compiler and then
it was fine.
