Updated from a fairly older version of libxml2 to version libxml2 2.4.5 (next to most recent) via rpm. Installed
libxml2 and libxml2-devel.

Went to recompile PHP, and the configure script died with:

"checking for DOM in default path... not found"
"configure: error: Please reinstall the libxml >= 2.2.7 distribution"

Please note that the error emitted has a small problem - it should say "Please reinstall the libxml2", not
"Please reinstall the libxml". But that's a detail.

Determined that the more recent versions of libxml2 keep their header files in /usr/include/libxml2/libxml
instead of in /usr/include/libxml, and only "$PHP_DOM/include/libxml/tree.h" is tested instead of testing
"$PHP_DOM/include/libxml2/libxml/tree.h".

I'd email you a fixed configure file...but I don't know who to mail it to, and the fix is so small that it'd take
anyone less than 3 minutes to do. So, anyways.

Fyi, I fixed this on my own system (a workaround) by doing "ln -s /usr/include/libxml2/libxml /usr/include/libxml".

This is fixed in CVS and also in the next release, 4.1
