I have the same as woprog,

its stupid, sometimes the functions works, sometimes not
under winnt is everything ok, linux not,
maybe its a proftpd problem, that is trigger
by the implementation of the php lib!

So you should complain to the phplib authors.

Seriously, such a bug report is quite useless.
