The enumeration specifier associates the manifest constants like define() with numbers 0, 1, 2, etc. respectively....

This was proposed in an RFC as such feature requests should nowadays, have a look at: https://wiki.php.net/rfc/enum and feel free to contact the author and possibly renew the request to the PHP Internals Mailing list.
