<?php

echo "hello world";
$page = fopen('http://www.altavista.com/','r');

?>

This script tells 'document contained no data' by NetScape. I checked by HTTP:

---
$ telnet 0 80
Trying 0.0.0.0...
Connected to 0.
Escape character is '^]'.
GET /~mage/open.php4 HTTP/1.0

Connection closed by foreign host.
---

If I comment the fopen() function out, the result is "hello world".

Failed to reproduce that. Could you try a snapshot from
http://snaps.php.net/ and report if it still happens?
